TCF Canada test format: tasks and time limits
Four compulsory tests
France Éducation international describes the TCF Canada as four tests that assess general French language skills. Listening and reading use multiple-choice questions. Written and spoken expression use tasks that require you to produce French.

The four test durations add up to 2 hours 47 minutes. The speaking test is individual and includes 2 minutes of preparation. The test centre will provide session-specific instructions.
What the time limits mean for your practice
Listening comprehension — 35 minutes
Practise following spoken French at different speeds and identifying the detail each question asks for. After answering, replay or review the material and note whether the difficulty came from vocabulary, a distractor, or missing a key detail.
Reading comprehension — 60 minutes
Work on locating the information a question requires without rereading every line. Practise with short texts as well as longer passages, and keep track of which question types take you the most time.
Written expression — 60 minutes for three tasks
Read each instruction closely before drafting. Leave time to plan, answer every part of the task, organize your ideas, and review grammar and spelling. The official task instructions define what each response must include.
Speaking — 12 minutes for three tasks
Practise answering clearly and staying on the question. The official format includes 2 minutes of preparation; use practice sessions to organize your first ideas quickly and support them with details.
